The Notorious RBG

The Notorious RBG-Art blog

“The Notorious R.B.G." As a kid, I admittedly wasn’t paying as much attention to history and political science as I should have been. I only cared about music. I heard it in my head, I wrote it, I was constantly figuring it out and I was consumed with the giant puzzle of what went into a song. I listened to my faves on the radio and quickly devoured any new releases hot off the press.  It was an obsession that would eventually segue into art.

But even the creative dreamers should make themselves aware of what is going on around them. I recently took in a documentary on Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony. I have since begun to pay a lot more attention to what women have and have not had the right to do. I am still astonished that some of our rights have not been available to us for all that long. Also, it’s hard to imagine that we would ever have had to fight for them.

While, you can almost never see eye to eye with anyone on everything.... you can certainly recognize the noble pulse of their fight and why/how it may contribute collectively to our nation. It’s not about dying to be right.... it’s about reaching for a solution. Ruth Bader Ginsburg once said, "Women belong in all places where decisions are being made. It shouldn't be that women are the exception." She was a warrior for women and fought tirelessly for us. There was a time a gal like me would have had no rights or allies. She made that better. She made a lot of things better.

While looking for a way to honor her, I was obsessed with the fierce beauty of this particular pose...Had. To. Paint. Couldn’t stop myself!! I hope you enjoy my tribute to “The Notorious RBG”... just as much as I did creating it! This painting of RBG is “a wrap”. It is an 8 x 10 watercolor on canvas panel.
